The first thing you really need to do is get a business license and/or seller’s permit. Even though vending machine businesses are very simple and straight forward, they are still businesses and need to be treated as such – and that means getting all the licenses and permits you need to operate your business. This will also add to your credibility when you approach locations. You’ll also want to make sure you know the tax laws and whether you need to add tax to the items in your machine. You don’t want to find out after making a thousand dollars in sales that you now have to pay part of that to taxes.

Secondly, you want to be as professional as possible. Make sure you have a truck or van that is large enough to carry your machines around safely, for instance. Get a uniform shirt made, even if you’re the only employee, and keep your machines serviced and maintained consistently. These are all things that will keep you a step above much of your competition. Listening to your customers will also go a very long way in building up a good reputation.

And last, but certainly not least, shop around for a good supplier. If you grow your business to the point where you have more than just a few machines, you’ll want to make sure you’re getting the best deals possible on your product. This can mean spending some time shopping around and comparing different prices, or even ordering different items from different suppliers.
